Hahaha I am doing an advertorial for Gmask again! The nice guys there told me to not be polite in my advertorial and that I can be as rude as I please, thus the title!
Anyway, to start this off, Gmask is awesome!
They specialise in protecting your gadgets for you via protective wraps - and as a bonus, these wraps can also be customised to the design of your choice!
I love Gmask because I LOVE customising stuff! Your gadgets should reflect your personality and nobody should be caught dead using a boring silver phone. Unless you are a boring silver phone sort of person I guess.
And reason no 2 for loving Gmask?
They did my first diamanted gadget for me back in 2006:
At that time, blinging stuff is not that common and I was one of the few people in Singapore who had such a sparkly mad chio phone!
I've of course never looked back since and every other gadget that I have are all crystallized. :D
Honestly, there is no better way to get attention.

So I got invited to the flagship store of Gmask.
And I'm really impressed!
This is the first store for Gmask and they have come a long way from their push-carts days.
After 3 years, the services have became so much more refined, and founder Clarence is like mad enthusiastic about his business, traveling to USA and goodness knows where to find out more about wrapping, crystals etc.
Up till today, I guess nobody can come up with another name when you say you want your gadget wrapped.

There's a swanky LCD touchscreen for easy browsing of designs.

You can choose sparkly, colourful, or plain transparent wraps if you want. And just to show you how sturdy and durable the wraps are, there it is, soaked in a cup of water.
Laptops too can be wrapped. Why should anything be left plain and boring??

Clarence was telling all about the new printing technology that he found that prints such bright colours but of course I was like Zzzzzzzz coz he was so technical.

Even if your gadget is not white, it is possible to get the same white-based effect by doing a white wrap underneath!
Anyway, they also told me to bring my mouse for some gmasking!

People always get very scared when they see that Gmask wrappers use a penknife to trim away the excess wrap.
It looks scary, but they are professionals and know what they are doing!

here and the incident rate of a penknife scratch is really low. Even if there is a scratch, it will be very tiny and insignificant. If you don't wrap confirm will scratch more right?!
Anyway I don't understand why people will kaobei so much about a weeny weeny scratch (not from Gmask, I'm just saying generally). Don't want any scratches you go and buy a diamond lor, nothing can scratch it. Phone obviously after a while will get scratched right? Even if you Gmask it you can still drop it and bust the corners. -_-
For people who are still afraid of scratches/bad workmanship, here's what Gmask will provide after your wrap:
Not bad right? It's just XXXX dollars for a wrap and yet got warranty!!
Anyway, enough about their wraps!!
Now for crystallizing!
A lot of people have asked me about zhng-ing their gadgets and whether they ought to
go to Gmask to do it, or DIY.Which one should you choose? Most people's immediate reaction is to of course DIY since it is much cheaper.
But is it really much cheaper? Here's a really helpful (I think lah) list of pros and cons to help you decide if you really should DIY your gadget:
(And these are honest pros and cons and I'm not just saying this because they are paying me for this advert!)Pros of DIY:
1. Fun (Or at least I think it is)2. Save on labour fees paid to Gmask.3. Don't have to bother explaining the design you want to someone elseHere are the many cons that many people are not aware of:
Cons of DIY:
1. Not many people are good with crafts. I know of a few people who actually destroyed their phones attempting to crystallise it.
They eventually changed phones because they couldn't stand the horrible handiwork on it.2. At least 7 hours required to zhng a whole phone (and I am fast). Do you have that sort of time? It's also very tiring and strenuous on your eyes.3. More time is spent to go buy crystals, not to mention travelling fares to go there.4. How many crystals do you need? Most people don't know and if you buy too many, it's a waste (unless you wish to use it on other gadgets).
If you buy too little, it's another trip down to Arab street. I average 3 trips to Arab street everytime I zhng something. It's damn fucked up can.But most of the time you buy too much (obviously right) and it's a waste of money.5. You might wish to do a design, say, a small rainbow. Each packet of crystals has a minimum of 144 same coloured crystals in it. You have to buy 1,008 crystals at minimum and that will set you back $84 ($12 per 144 pack), even if each colour you only used 20 crystals! What are you going to do with the rest of the crystals? 6. Hotfix and flatback. There are 2 sorts of Swarovski crystals - One is for ironing on clothes (hotfix), and the other for stuff like sticking on gadgets (flatback). The difference is that Hotfixes have a layer of glue under them, and this makes your crystals very thick when they are stuck on your gadget. I am a firm believer in using flatbacks. Most crystals sold in Arab street are hotfixes.7. People think that DIY crystals are really cheap but this is a myth. Crystals are NOT cheap and that's a fact. To bling my sidekick, I swear I spent at least $200 on just the back itself!Remember I am not trying to persuade anyone to go for Gmask VS DIY. I am a strong advocator of zhnging stuff myself and I love doing it! But I'm also very good with my hands and I've got all the time in the world!
AND I don't mind spending extra money on excess crystals because I always want to zhng new stuff. I've got like at least 3,000 unused crystals. Haha!!
I just wanted to highlight all these issues because you completely throw off the idea of getting professionals to do it for you!
If you choose using Gmask:
- It is always nicely done.
- You don't have to waste your time.
- You pay for the exact amount of crystals used.
- Best of all they give you a free wrap, and,
- A LIFETIME WARRANTY!
Dropped diamonds just go back and they will stick it back on for you!
- They have almost all the colours here.
- In any size you want... And they are flatbacks.The cost of zhnging is
$1 per crystal. This is a fantastic deal for people who only want a few crystals smattered across their phone!
If you want an entire surface crystallised, regardless of the design it is
$288.
Honestly man for
$88 extra I should have asked Gmask to do it. My phone is so big and fat, it's like damn wu hua.

The diamantes they used are so weeny! Smaller crystals give better sparkle as there are fewer gaps in between the crystals, but it takes up way more effort.
My favourite is of course the pink.

If you still wanna DIY, don't forgot to gmask the phone with a transparent layer first to protect it!
I did so for my sidekick too and paid for it myself.
And here's a tip: You can Gmask it sparkly, so that even the holes in between diamonds appear shiny! Tadah!
